Storage tanks are tanks designed for the storage of liquids. Although they are mostly used in the petroleum industry, they are also used in other sectors (food industry, fertilizer industry, etc.). The design and production of storage tanks are carried out by taking into account international standards.
Low pressure tanks are designed and constructed in accordance with API 620 and have a maximum working pressure of 15lbf/in2 (103.4kPa).
Atmospheric tanks are designed and constructed according to API 650, and their working pressure is the same as atmospheric pressure (101.3 kPa).[2] For their design, the density, vapor pressure, etc. of the stored liquid must be known. Mechanical calculations of tanks also depend on geographical features; factors such as the structure of the soil for the foundation, wind forces for tipping safety, and calculation of earthquake loads are taken into account.
